Baby Grey parrot. (Psittacus erithacus erithacus) We’ve been waiting a long time for this great talker, formerly known as African Greys or Congo Greys. They sport body feathers in many shades of grey, with a bright red tail feather. Greys are extremely social and very intelligent.  This baby is newly hatched and will be arriving at The Animal Store soon. They never stay in store long, so if you’re interested, give us a call or stop in to place a deposit.

Blue-and-yellow Macaw

This majestic parrot, the Blue and Yellow Macaw, is also known as the Blue and Gold Macaw. Stunning and colorful, these macaws have blue bodies and a bright yellow or gold chest, with a bit of green above the beak. Full grown, they are about 35 inches long to the end of the tail. Blue and Yellows can live up to 70 years, so they make for lifelong companions.

They are considered good talkers. They are quite intelligent and love to learn new tricks. These large parrots have big personalities and benefit from a lot of social interaction with their human family. Like all baby birds at The Animal Store, our macaws are hand fed to make a perfect family pet.

Lovebird

Lovebirds are charming little parrots and we couldn’t love them more.

Part of the parrot (Psittaciforme) family, the lovebird is very social and makes a great companion pet. Quieter than some of their larger parrot cousins, they can learn to mimic a variety of sounds, but typically are not great talkers. They to bond better with their human families when they are kept as single birds, but make attentive and adorable mates when kept in pairs.

Lilac Crowned Amazon

Lilac Crowned Amazon — this stunning green parrot is topped with lilac feathers and a maroon forehead, making it unmistakably beautiful. It is sometimes known as Finsch’s Amazon. Green Cheeks are small, beautiful conures found in muted shades of greens, reds, and blues. These small parrots, also known as Yellow-sided conures, are fun and affectionate with huge personalities. They are very acrobatic and love to learn new tricks. They thrive when offered a variety of toys that you should rotate regularly. Green Cheeks are among our most popular birds. They are favorite first birds for pet owners because of their sweet temperaments.

These are the smallest conures, and sport mostly green feathers with grey beaks and feet. Come meet our baby birds and have a giggle. We guarantee you’ll fall in love.

Pacific Parrotlet

These baby parrotlets are a jewel-toned beauties. They are the world’s smallest parrots. Though tiny, they come with big personalities. They’re so small that they are sometimes called “pocket parrots,” but watch out for their strong beaks before you consider putting one in your pocket. They enjoy a large cage with tightly spaced bars and plenty of toys and treats for enrichment. They can be quite affectionate but require a lot of attention from their humans in order to thrive as healthy pets.

Black Capped Conure

Black Capped Conure (aka Rock Conure) — both the males and females of this striking little parrot have black foreheads, with scalloped black and white neck and breast feathers, and green bodies. They also have a bare eye, or whiteish ring around their eyes. Juveniles are slightly duller in color.

Black Caps are fun and friendly little birds with highly entertaining personalities. They are among the smallest of the conures, growing to about 10 inches from beak to tail. They can live to be about 30 years old.

Rainbow Lorikeet

Rainbow Lorikeets (or lory) are members of the parrot family. As its name suggest, this bird is a living rainbow, with a bright red breast and feathers all the colors of the rainbow. Friendly and affectionate, a lory is also very smart. They love to play and are eager to learn new tricks.

Lorikeets will grow to about 15 inches head to tail. Spending quality time with your lory will make it a wonderful companion. They are good talkers and squawkers. You can keep your lory happy by providing lots of attention and plenty of new toys, which you should change out frequently.

You may often find a member of our volunteer Jr. Critter Crew carrying a baby bird around the store, playing with it, and giving it lots of attention. Canary

The charming canary is one of the most popular pet birds in the world. They are quite friendly, and humans have considered the canary a wonderful companion for hundreds of years.  A male canary will start practicing its pretty songs at about three months old, and both males and females enjoy a lot of attention. People who live in apartments or smaller homes appreciate canaries because they are among the quietest of our feathered friends

Though usually thought of as bright yellow, there are more than 200 varieties of canaries. They are all easy to care for and can live 10 to 14 years.

Black-headed Caique

This charming Caique is also known as the black-headed parrot, black-capped parrot, or pallid parrot. Cockatiel Babies

The cockatiel is a friendly little bird and our selection of babies changes all the time. Though their appearance varies, there is only one type of cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus). These charming, beautiful young birds come in a variety of colors and mutations:

We love our ‘tiels. They are funny, lovable, and a great addition to any bird-loving family. For example, these fun little birds love to whistle and chirp. By rotating toys in and out of their cage, you can keep their environment interesting.

English Budgies

The English Budgerigar (Budgie) is the larger cousins of American Budgerigars (also known as parakeets). They are 2-3 inches longer than parakeets, and weigh about twice as much. Budgies are available in a wide variety of colors and patterns. They look fluffier than parakeets and tend to have sweeter personalities if they are well socialized. These birds have been specifically bred as pets and are often show birds.

English Budgies live  about 7 to 9 years. These small parrots appreciate a generous cage and lots of enrichment to keep them happy and healthy. The Animal Store carries a wide variety of toys that will keep your bird busy. The more time you spend with your English Budgie, the happier it will be. They have calm personalities and can learn to talk quite well, making them fantastic family pets.

Our budgies, like all our young birds, are hand raised.

Yellow Crested Cockatoo

(formerly Lesser Sulphur-crested Cockatoo)

The Yellow Crested (formerly Lesser Sulphur-crested) Cockatoo is a regal bird. It has white feathers with yellow underwings and a bright yellow crest. Males have black eyes and females have brown eyes. This is the smallest of the crested parrots and their average lifespan is 50-60 years, but they have been known to live 65 years or more.  They can mimic some speech, but aren’t the best talkers. They are extremely intelligent and affectionate. They thrive with a lot of attention, and you should plan to provide them with lots of enrichment.

In the right home, they make fantastic companion pets.

Lineolated Parakeets

Lineolated (or Barred) parakeets are named for its barred or striped black markings. Many are primarily green, but we have a variety of pretty color mutations, from soft blue and turquoise, to a darker feathered beauty. These small birds (Bolborhynchus lineola) are members of the parrot family. They are quite calm and make lovely pets. They are sometimes known as Catherine Parakeets and are excellent mimics, often becoming good talkers.

Double Headed Amazon

Amazons are short, large-bodied parrots with short tails. They have huge personalities and can be excellent talkers. This baby double yellow-headed Amazon is particularly beautiful. Like all our birds, this baby is hand fed to be a great companion.

These medium-sized parrots are extremely intelligent and make great companion birds. They love attention, and the more you can give to your Ringneck, the more affectionate and social it will be with you.
